The Peak Oil Crisis and Our Water Supply Infrastructure

One of the major issues facing the world today is the coming Peak Oil Crisis. Geologists around the world know that oil is a finite resource. It was pointed out by M. King Hubbert, geologist, geophysicist, petroleum engineer, that oil in the United States would peak in 1970. This 30 year researcher for Shell Research Lab and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) calculated in 1969 that oil production in the United States would follow a bell shaped curve, peaking in 1970, and declining thereafter. United States production was about 100 billion barrels in 1972. This amount came from 520,000 actively producing wells (China has 72,000, Russia - 41,000, Saudi Arabia - 1,560).

The following study of the peak oil crisis was done in February 2005. It gives a good analysis of the problem and possible mitigation:

PEAKING OF WORLD OIL PRODUCTION: IMPACTS, MITIGATION, & RISK MANAGEMENT, Robert L. Hirsch, SAIC, Project Leader, Roger Bezdek, MISI, Robert Wendling, MISI

I have a copy this study and will make it available to you in Adobe PDF format. If you will send me your email address, I will email you the report.

Water, energy and our electrical grid are all interconnected. A critical failure or disruption in any one of these systems will impact the other systems. Knowledge is the best way to prepare for or solve any problem.

Other eBook Water and Security Resources

Water is one of our critical resources. Because of this, I wrote these books about our water supply and infrastructure to help raise the level of consciousness of the American public. In my opinion, the solution to many of our nation's resource problems lays not with our leaders or experts, but to a more informed public.

Of the nine critical infrastructures defined by the President after 9/11, three are very closely linked to you water supply system. These are:

  • The Electrical Grid (Energy Infrastructure)
  • The Transportation System
  • The Communications Grid - Computers and the Internet

Without any of these, your water supply would be severely limited, if not impossible. The sites listed below have more information about these critical infrastructures and how they related to your water supply system.
